A native New Yorker from Roosevelt Island, Jason came into photography at a young age but it wasn't until his mid-twenties that he began to practice obsessively. His formal schooling was in stage design where the curricula required in-depth study in a range of visual subjects; subsequently influencing him to branch out and explore other media. Jason's approach to photography stems from a theatrical sensibility making his perception of the camera's view finder to be that of a proscenium arch. His training in lighting and painting is a dominant and dramatic presence in his images as well as being a technical asset that allows him to control subtle (or grand) variations of color, tonal value and contrast. His frequent travels with actors and jazz musicians across the United States (as well as parts of Europe) has given Jason the freedom and opportunity to capture a wide spectrum of subjects and locals that still conform to his particular point of view.

He often fluctuates between shooting in both B&W and color whereas those choices are derived by mood composition and state of mind. Jason’s equipment consists of a patchwork of manual SLRs purchased in pawn shops throughout the US.
