A university lecturer of mine back many years ago who was a psychologist and an Indian said no! "There is no such thing as a completely platonic male female relationship, at least one of the parties at some time will think of the other in a sexual, or more than just friendship way". I tend to agree.

I like I'm sure you have, met many people who say they are just friends with people of the opposite sex, and even I would say currently I have female friends, but that is not to say at sometime the thought of being more than just friends hasn't crossed my mind, although not with all.

I have broached this subject with friends both male and female and most of my male friends say its impossible to be just friends with a girl, but my female friends say it is, if they don't fancy the bloke they are friends with. But this does not mean the bloke they don’t fancy does not want to bonk them, so its not truly platonic. Both parties need to be disinterested in order for it to be truly platonic.

What if one of the male or females is gay? Well I guess its not really an issue, or a plutonic male/female relationship in the true meaning of what that implies, that being there is a possibility for sexual interaction. And if one party is gay its not likely that any sex could happen.

What if the persons are attached or married? Well I don't believe marriage or having a partner eliminates the possibility for sexual attraction it just impairs the likelihood of any action resulting from it.

What if both parties are in love with someone else? (you know the type falling head over heels and you can’t think of anyone else but your beloved) Here I think it may be possible, you have something in common, that being falling in love, and your not likely to feel any sexual attraction for anyone else than your beloved, so perhaps my lecturer was wrong it could be possible, you just need to fall in love with someone who is not already a friend and make sure your friends of the opposite sex do the same, at the same time, and all will be hunky dory.
